Psychotherapy and Health

Psychotherapy has been shown to have a positive impact on our overall health. Stress and depression take a heavy toll on our physical health and even shorten our life expectancy. Psychotherapy helps us to change patterns which have been barriers to our full enjoyment of life. Enjoyment and zest in life bring us health and happiness. Psychotherapy helps us to become centered and strong in our sense of self and enables us to enjoy a healthy life.

In therapy we encounter a supportive and understanding person. Being heard calms us and helps us to cope better with our problems. Being heard also raises our self-esteem. Within this accepting relationship we can sort through our problems and feel empowered to manage better. We become centered and gain a perspective, but most of all we find our voice. When we express our inner thoughts out loud, it is like turning on the light, allowing us to see more clearly the shadows in the room. As we understand ourselves better or differently, we are able to form closer and more fulfilling relationships.

Select a licensed psychotherapist with whom you feel comfortable and safe. Expect your therapist to listen and to understand. Don't expect answers, but rather expect help in finding your own answers. Remember, it is your life and only you can know what makes it fulfilling and good.
